Gynazole Warnings and Dangers

Gynazole is used to treat yeast infections of the vagina. Gynazole comes as a cream to insert into the vagina. It is usually used daily at bedtime for either 1 or 6 days.

Gynazole is a generic drug sold under the brand names Femstat and Gynazole.

Gynazole may cause the following side effects:
  • Burning in vagina or urinary opening
  • Irritation in vagina or urinary opening
  • Pain in vagina or urinary opening
  • Lower abdominal cramps
  • Stomach pain
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Foul-smelling discharge
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling
  • Severe Dizziness
  • Trouble breathing

Gynazole is for external use only. Do not let cream get into your eyes or mouth, and do not swallow it.

You should not use Gynazole vaginal if you have a fever, abdominal pain, foul-smelling vaginal discharge, diabetes, HIV, or AIDS.

This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

Gynazole contains mineral oil, which can weaken the latex rubber that condoms and diaphragms are made of. If you use either of these forms of birth control, they may not be as effective during your treatment with Gynazole. Use another form of birth control while you are using Gynazole and for at least 3 full days after your treatment has ended.

It is not known whether Gynazole passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Avoid wearing tight-fitting, synthetic clothing such as nylon underwear or panty hose that does not allow air circulation. Wear loose-fitting clothing made of cotton and other natural fibers until your infection is healed.

Avoid using other vaginal creams or douches at the same time as Gynazole vaginal unless your doctor approves.
