Fungizone Warnings and Dangers

Fungizone can have serious side effects and should only be used for treatment of patients with progressive and potentially life-threatening fungal infections. It should not be used to treat noninvasive forms of fungal disease such as oral thrush, vaginal yeast infections, and esophageal yeast infections.

Fungizone is a brand name for the drug Amphotericin B.





Use of Amphotericin has been associated with the following:
  • Shock
  • Chills
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Changes in heartbeat
  • Fast Breathing
  • Fainting
  • Blurred vision
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Pale skin
  • Flushing
  • Tiredness
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach cramping
  • Loss of appetite
  • Heartburn
  • Abnormal weight loss
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Ringing in ears
  • Hearing loss
  • Pain, burning, numbness, or tingling in hands or feet
  • Itching
  • Hives
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Wheezing
  • Confusion
  • Loss of consciousness or responsiveness
  • Seizures
  • Decreased urination
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising
  • Black or tarry stools
  • Red blood in stools

  • Yellowing of eyes or skin

  • High blood pressure

Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take.

Be sure to mention any of the following:
  • Aminoglycoside antibiotics such as amikacin (Amikin), gentamicin (Garamycin), kanamycin (Kantrex), neomycin (Nes-RX, Neo-Fradin), paramomycin (Humatin), streptomycin, and tobramycin (Tobi, Nebcin)
  • Certain antifungals such as clotrimazole, fluconazole, itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole, and miconazole
  • Corticotrophin (ACTH, H.P., Acthar Gel)
  • Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune)
  • Digoxin (Digitek, Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin)
  • Flucytosine (Ancobon)
  • Medications for the treatment of cancer, such as nitrogen mustard
  • Oral steroids such as dexamethasone (Decadron, Dexone), methylprednisolone (Medrol), and prednisone (Deltasone)
  • Pentamidine (NebuPent, Pentam 300).
    Tell your doctor if you are receiving transfusions or having radiation treatments. Also tell your doctor if you have or have ever had diabetes, or heart or kidney disease.

    Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. If you become pregnant while taking Fungizone, call your doctor. Do not breastfeed if you are taking Fungizone.

    If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Fungizone.
