what is candida?

i have suffered from gas my whole life and someone just suggested that it might be candida.but i dont know what that is.does anyone know?

    Candida is the name for a group of yeasts (a type of fungus) that commonly infect the skin. The name ‘candida’ refers to the white colour of the organisms in culture. Candidal infection is known as ‘candidiasis’, ‘candidosis’ or ‘moniliasis’.

    Candida depends on a living host for survival. It is a normal inhabitant of the human digestive tract from early infancy, where it lives without causing any disease most of the time. However, if the host’s defences are lowered, the organism can cause infection of the mucosa (the lining of the mouth, anus and genitals), the skin, and rarely, deep-seated infection.

    Candida is the yeast that naturally lives in a woman’s vaginal area. When this yeast overgrows it causes what is commonly known as a yeast infection. I’m not sure how this could be causing you gas though…

    Gaseousness is not necessarily related to Candida infections of either ends of the tubes.

    You need to look harder at the diet that you take and the activities that you do.

    Certain foods, which may be predominantly richer in just carbohydrates such as potato, sweet-potato, as well as certain vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli etc tend to increase the gaseousness. The best way to handle them is by adding items such as ginger in your diet and that tends to ensure that gaseousness is better controlled.

    You may also want to look at the types of activities that you do after a good meal; a good walk about one hour of major meals should do you good.

    Another possibility is to look for yoga lessons.

    Finally, if you tend to get stressed easily, look for ways and means of reducing stress; reduce the level of intake of coffee and tea, which also tend to increase acidity and hence gaseousness.
