you can get them just by being a girl. its possible to have them whether or not you are a virgin, just more likely if you arent. symptoms include itching, pain during penetration/sex, odor, or offcolored or "cottage cheese" secretion. you can use many things like over the counter creams to get rid of it depending on what the infection is. (MOST women get them before the die it does NOT mean your unclean) but prevention includes cleanliness.

symptoms are when u start getting the itchy feeling…
u are probably unhygienic. you need to keep it clean, as in washing a couple of times per day or changing your pantyliner… and if your partner has infection, it will spread to u too.
heard that there is a new kind of injection that prevents cervical cancer which help to curb vaginal infection too.
by keeping clean wld help too.. and staying to 1 sexual partner.

What kind of infection are you talking about?
If it is a yeast infection; white flaky or cottage cheese appearance, itching, burning when you urinate but no foul odor. Try Monostat.
Other infections with a foul odor; You should see your doctor to rule out an STD or bacterial infection. Do it soon to prevent it from getting worse.

The only way to be sure if you have a vaginal infection is to see a doctor. People can tell you some of the symptoms but you really should seek medical attention if you are worried.

Women get infections for many reasons, most often people here suggest it is sex related but they fail to mention that very often vaginal infections are caused by incorrectly wiping after a bowel movement.

All females need to wipe from front to back so not to bring the waste from our bowels forward, this is a very common way of getting a vaginal infection.

The process could be without any symptoms too. But in general you would have itching, burning, there is a feeling that you want to rip it off, yellowish or greenish vaginal discharge with odor, if its a yeast infection it will have milky color and look like a cottage cheese. in any case a visit to a gyn will be the best solution.
Vaginal infection mostly transfered through unprotected sex, also oral sex is a source to get an infection, yeast infection is likelier to get from medications, especially from antibiotics.
There are some infections that can stay in a latent form (harmless) after treatment, but as soon as the immune system will be down it will become aggressive. So if the infection is fully treated and in general condoms are the best way to stay healthy
