Using yeast infection medication without a yeast infection?
Would this be bad?
I’m asking because I’m not sure if I have a yeast infection or not. I can’t make it to the doctor anytime soon, so I’m thinking of purchasing an OTC treatment.
I don’t have a whole lot of symptoms… but over the past week, my discharge has gotten thicker and it’s slightly yellow. And today I have much more discharge than normal. It doesn’t smell bad, and I’m not feeling itchy, but could this be a yeast infection?
(Before anyone says it, it’s absolutely not an STD. Completely impossible.)
It won’t hurt you, but if symptoms continue, you will need to get to the doctor asap. I once got a real bad infection because I put off going to the doctor.
no it wont hurt though if it doesnt work it is probably a differant type of infection theres more types of infection then just a yeast infection that isnt caused from sex but many of the same things that cuase yeast infections. so try it if it doesnt work see a doctor.
It is likely not a yeast infection. You have some other type of vaginal infection (“vaginitis”, if you are looking for info online). The site below has info on other types of vaginal infections besides yeast infections, but here are the ones that it seems most likely to be, based on your description:
Yellow discharge is often associated with Trichomoniasis. This is considered an STD, but you can also get it from public toilet seats and such. It is easily treatable.
Another likely culprit is simply a non-infectious irritation. These are often causes by detergent or soap. Are you using a new one? If you have recently switched soaps or detergents, that could be the cause. Generally, non-scented products are better if you are sensitive in this regard.
Don’t purchase any OTC treatment until you zero in on what specific infection you do have.
