    The first thing to try is sticking your tongue out at baby, even newborns can mimic, but of course not all will.

    You can try rubbing the top lip to get the baby to open wide, like you sometimes do to get a baby latch on properly.

    Otherwise you may just have to use your fingers and gently force the baby’s mouth open
