Is vaginal discharge normal or is it an STD symptom?
I think I remember having it before I lost my virginity but I’m not quite sure and even if I did it wasn’t this bad. But yeah. Everyday when I take off my underwear there wet and there’s white-ish clear stuff in there. I think I might have an STD? I’m to scared to go to the doctor plus I’m only 14 so I’m not going to ask my parents. HELP!
Yes, honey, you would have had vaginal discharge before you lost your virginity. Vaginal discharge is your vagina’s way of keeping itself clean, after all, it is an open cavity to your body, though not open for the outside world to see, of course. Still, dirt particles can get inside you from, say, your underware, which was freshly washed and kept in a drawer, but would still have dirt particles on it. Don’t woryr, that’s life. There’s dirt and bacteria everywhere, and much of it is actually “good” bacterium. Still, the inside of your vagina is lined with a mucus like substance in order to catch any foreign particles, which is then secreted during the day (and night) to keep those foreign substances from traveling up your vaginal canal and into other parts of your body. It’s a basically an immune-response designed to keep you healthy.
The discharge should not be alarming, it should be a part of day to day life. It DOES increase (so that you may see it in your underware, either white or clear (depending on yoru time of the month) and slightly sticky) after puberty, so that is why, at 14, you are seeing an increase in the amount. It should only cause alarm if it is causing a burning or itching sensation, or has a strong foul smell. Note that the vagina naturally has a musky odor, and this is normal. The healthy vagina WILL have a smell, it will not be completely odorless. It is the STRONG FOUL smell you want to watch out for, as well as itching/burning, which may signify a yeast infection or be a symptom of an STI.
