Oral thrush can grow quickly, as can candida (yeast) overgrowth throughout your body.
Your sinus infection might possibly be due to candida overgrowth (I have this and sinus issues are one of my most prominent symptoms), so the prednisone may not help.
Go back to see a doctor, you might need a prescription anti-fungal, such as Lamisil , to get rid of the oral thrush.
If you do have candida overgrowth, which is common, I would really encourage you to look into an anti-candida diet (basically cut out sugars, refined carbs, fermented items…). I also took supplements, such as pro-biotics and natural anti-fungals, like garlic and oil of oregano. I tried this after I had been plagued by a whole array of symptoms for a year (anxiety, muscle aches, tingling, fatigue, sinus issues, stomach problems, ‘brain fog’) and my symptoms drastically improved and even disappeared. When I am more relaxed on the diet though, the symptoms can come back.

The book, "The Yeast Connection", by William Crook is also a good one to read. They should have it in your local library.
Good luck!
It can happen in hours! But it also goes away in hours, if you get the right meds.
I can’t answer about how fast symptoms arise, but my daughter had problems with thrush from time to time. I would give her yogurt several times a day – to eat – and the thrush would go away quickly. Make sure that the yogurt has active cultures! It’s the cultures that help balance out your system and get it going on the right track again.
